Selecting an inground swimming pool contractor

  • Research and understand your local setbacks established by your municipal government or neighborhood covenants. Some areas have one setback, while others will have multiple setbacks for the pool, fence, pool closure, equipment, etc. You can start by looking into your architectural restrictions and documents within your neighborhood if that applies. Pool contractors should be able to provide you with many of the other setback requirements for your county and/or city.
  • Do your research for qualified pool contractors and submit the provided bid sheet and pool plan to at least three contractors for high, middle, and low price comparisons. There’s nothing better than personal recommendations, but you can also obtain information from your chamber of commerce and the Better Business Bureau. Ask for references of former clients and request to see examples of their work.
  • Make sure your bids are apples to apples for easy comparisons. Items that can make a bid differ include: heater types and sizes, pump and waterfall control options, pool finish options, water
line tile allowances, filters and pool cleaners.
